Estimates of Systematic Reporting Biases in Trade Statistics.

Abstract
Trade statistics are thought of as unreliable because often there are at least two quite different figures for the same transaction. This paper reports on a statistical procedure for quantifying the systematic component of such unreliability. The method is applied to the subset of the United Nations data on world merchandise trade pertaining to the OECD countries. It is found that within this group some countries consistently over- or under-report imports and/or exports. Copyright 1992 by Taylor and Francis Group
