Electromagnetic model for twin slot terahertz mixers (2004)

Abstract
Electromagnetic Model for Twin Slot Terahertz Mixers Focardir Andrea Neto William McGratht Abstract Twin slot antennas coupled superconducting devices are currently being developed for terahertz mixers and direct detectors for astronomical observations Although these mixers show promising performance terms noise temperature they usually also show considerable downward shift the center frequency especially when compared with calculations obtained with commonly used simplified models This discrepancy actually due variety reasons The impact the bolometer CPW transition the choke ter and the radiation losses the CPW line have been demonstrated recent study some the most important reasons the disagreement between calculations and measurements this paper discuss these effects and other features such the silicon lens obtaining more robust model suitable not only for analysis but also for the synthesis these circuits complete set terahertz mixers four different center frequencies between GHz and THz have been fabricated following the guidelines provided our model and are currently being tested The preliminary results power coupling measured THz are still not good expected however they show that our model going the right direction With respect previous designs the new mixers have now much better efficiency terms power coupling the superconducting device and the center frequency shift now decreased roughly from By the time that this paper will published the conference proceedings will
