| Submillimeter wave spectral responseof twin slot antennas coupled hot electron bolometers Wyss Neto McGrath Bumble LeDuc Centerfor Space Microelectronics Technology Jet Propulsion Laboratory California Institute Technology Pasadena ABSTRACT The spectral response quasioptical hot electronbolometer HEB mixers hasbeen measured with Fourier transform spectrometer this study have measured mixers with wide range twin slot antennas with slot lengths ranging from to For all designs the measured center the direct detection response was lower than predictions based Method Moment MOM calculation simplified mixer embedding circuit model This model took intoaccountthe slot antennas and the coplanar waveguide embedding circuit butnotthe parasitic effects associated with the couplings these elements the HEB device geometry The frequency shift becomes particularly significant frequencies beyond THz and isin excess for the smallest antennas Such large shifts reduce the radiation coupling efficiency more than and hence increase the mixer noise temperature unnecessarily resolve the discrepancy between the observations and the model predictions have introduced two essential refinements into the MOM model which account for the coplanar waveguide CPW slot antenna transition and the inductance associated with the effective narrowing the CPW center lead represented the HEB bridge The results these model refinements prove have small effect the real part the embedding impedance but dramatic effect ont | |||||||||
