Nonlinear Time-Dependent Phenomena in JXB Devices Applicable to MHD Power Generators and Electric Propulsion Engines. (1998)

Abstract
The report describes a realistic analytical method of modeling the time-dependent behavior of MHD generators and accelerators. This method can give accurate quantitative prediction of the performance and efficiency of an MHD generator channel as a function of its size, and can dictate the choice of operating conditions and geometry that will optimize the efficiency and longevity of an MHD power generator of a given size. It can simulate detailed, fluctuating dynamic behavior of segmented-electrode MHD power generators operating in an intermittent or burst mode, or steady-state MHD generators including the start up phase. The modeling is performed by numerical (digital) techniques. (Author)
