| RESEARCH ON NEW CONCEPTS IN ENERGY CONVERSION. (1998) | |||||||||
Abstract | |||||||||
| This report is intended to review progress in a continuing study of advanced concepts in energy conversion. The objectives of this program are to identify promising new methods of energy conversion, and to carry out the research required to demonstrate their technical feasibility. Exploration has been made of the feasibility of Rankine-cycle space power systems incorporating nonequilibrium magnetohydrodynamic generators. At present, the major effort is directed toward obtaining a basic understanding of the behavior of such generators, by operating and analyzing a generator of realistic size. The system aspects of nuclear-MHD power systems are also being explored as well as the electrical behavior of alkali-metal vapors. | |||||||||
