Laser Surface Modification of Nickel-Base Hardfacing Alloys to Enhance Wear and Corrosion Properties. (1998)

Abstract
The wear and electrochemical corrosion behavior have been studied in laser-modified Ni-Cr-X-B(X=Nb,Ta) and Ni-Cr-B-Si coatings, in aqueous hydrochloric acid and aqueous nitric acid solutions. These coatings are compared to those produced by atmospheric-pressure plasma spraying and to conventional alloys. The laser-modified coatings have significantly improved abrasive wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
