The apparatus has a measuring probe (1) with a measuring head. The head is provided with an indicator (5) responsive to the photocatalytic activity of the layer. The indicator is positioned spaced from the layer to measure its activity. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS also cover a method of measuring the photocatalytic activity.
