DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Apparatus for selective laser smelting comprises a process chamber (1) having a capacity (7) for the molded body (16) below the base surface of the process chamber, and a leveling device to distribute material powder as a layer of constant thickness over a region of the base surface. The leveling device has an element that moves over the base surface to distribute the powder. USE - Used in rapid phototyping in laser smelting.
