Abstract | |||||||||
| While metal and plastics are in competition with each other in traditional industrial processing, the advantages of both materials can be combined by a hybrid technology. Even if plastics-metal composite components can be fabricated using different processes nowadays, these processes have disadvantages due to the necessary large number of fabrication steps and restrictions in productivity as well as due to the attainable component complexity. Moreover, the material groups (metal or plastics) are basically considered separately from each other. In order to be able to optimally combine the special advantages of both the different types of materials, plastics-metal composite components should be produced using thermal joining processes. The objectives of this section of the excellence cluster are to elaborate new joining strategies and to develop suitable installation engineering for the pre-treatment and joining of metal with plastics. This also includes the implementation of shorter and more efficient process chains in comparison with the state of the art. | |||||||||
