| Cyborg unplugged: Some ecological issues of wearable computing and personal safety devices ∗ An historical context is provided for a recent unfortunate incident that has brought to light many of the important fundamental issues associated with being part human, and part machine, in an era of terroristinduced paranioa. This paper outlines the author’s experience regarding the attachment of computer systems to the body, and some of the ethnomethodological insights gained from being with the wearable computer in many aspects of daily life for more than 20 years, while traveling to many different countries around the world. The insights presented in this paper will hopefully inform the reader of fundamental issues in wearable computing that will become important when wearable computing weaves its way into the fabric of everyday living. | |||||||||||||||||
