Abstract
Abstract—We propose 1 a framework for assessing and improving the reliability of machines and mechanisms during their design process. Actually, a multidisciplinary viewpoint is adopted to develop a reliability approach based on flexible representations that benefit from a comprehensive probabilistic and physical modeling of either the performance or the failure scenarios of the considered systems. The suggested FORM/SORM-based analysis yields traditional reliability measures. It also participates in the definition of chains of sensitivity factors that detail the weight of each failure scenario and associated design parameters with respect to the considered failure modes or loss of performance. These results are exploited to contribute efficiently to design for reliability efforts.
