Abstract | |||||||||||||||
| We describe several approaches to visualising data contained in log files which record the stream of events from various simulation applications. Besides identifying several existing useful techniques, we also report experience with the use of VRML 2.0 to reanimate log files into three-dimensional movies of the events they record. Reanimation is a particularly promising technique, both for assisting the analyst in his choice of data views, and providing a natural vehicle for communicating the results of an analysis. 1 The event stream analysis problem An ever increasing amount of activity by military personnel is mediated by a computer. Such activity ranges from live engagements, in which computer controlled weapons systems are involved, to the increasing use of distributed computer systems to simulate a variety of military scenarios. A considerable amount of data (called the Event Stream below) can be generated during such man/machine interactions, and is potentially a useful ... | |||||||||||||||
