Abstract | |||||||||||||||||
| This paper emphasizes the importance of simultaneously performing joint spatial and tonal registration when dealing with differently exposed images. This is supported by analyzing an example where only jointly simultaneous registration provides the correct result. The registration approach utilizes an objective function that minimizes the sum of the collective variance over pixels of a global coordinate grid. This allows for the pair-wise or simultaneous registration of images. The models employed relate images spatially by homographic transformations and tonally by comparametric functions. The approach can easily include or exclude the tonal modeling to provide for a fair comparison between joint and spatial-only registration. | |||||||||||||||||
