| Very large airports may have several terminals with 60 or 70 (or more) gates at each, multiple parallel runways in several directions, and hundreds of aircraft arriving and departing each day. In these complexes of taxiways and runways, it is important to know which taxiway is which and, thus, where it goes. Airport diagrams give a plan view of the airport but signs are essential for the pilot to identify where the aircraft is and what intersection is being approached. Airport diagrams can become cluttered with information and have scaling problems; they are standardized at A5 page size, making them hard to interpret, especially for larger, more complex aerodromes. | |||||||||||||
